Nurdle Hunt - Bahri Marine Roots Conservation

SISAD Eco Club organized a Marine Life Conservation Activity (Nurdle Hunt) in collaboration with Emirates Nature–WWF (Connect With Nature). The activity offered students a hands-on outdoor learning experience, highlighting the harmful impact of microplastics on marine ecosystems. Students actively collected nurdles—tiny plastic pellets—by sieving shoreline sand and learned how these pollutants contribute to the decline of marine life when ingested by marine organisms.

Special focus was given to the conservation of the critically endangered Hawksbill Turtle, a critically endangered species native to the UAE (the only sea turtle species that nests along the UAE coastline). Students learned how marine pollution directly threatens the survival of this species and the urgent need for responsible environmental practices. Overall, the activity was engaging and educational, strengthening students’ awareness of marine conservation and the need to protect ecosystems through informed action.
