Privacy, Terms & Conditions

We strive to keep the amount of data that we collect to the minimum required to run the site.

What data do we collect for registration?

Our registration forms require users to give us contact information (such as name, email, phone number, and postal address) and unique identifiers (such as your login name and password). We also collect information on the location of our members. We use this to help us create resources and other content that is applicable to our members.

What do we use the registration data for?

The registration data we collect is used to enable you to log in and take part in the activities offered on the website, and to send you information required to take part in those activities. You can also optionally sign up to receive news updates about Roots & Shoots UAE via our mailing list. You will not receive marketing material from any third parties, and can request that you are removed from the mailing list at any time by using the unsubscribe link included on each of the mailing list emails we send to you.

User generated content (‘Mission Updates’)

Registered users can post articles on this website (“Mission Updates”) about all the great work they and their Roots & Shoots group are doing to help people, animals and the environment. These articles are checked by us and, assuming they are appropriate and contain only material that you have the rights to use (i.e. generated by yourself, passed to you with express permission to post on the website, public domain or reproduced under an applicable licence with correct attribution (e.g. Creative Commons)), are published on the website.

By posting an article you are granting us (Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots FZ-LLC) a non-transferable right to use the content you have provided in the post (including any images) on this website, on our social media accounts and in our printed material (for example a printed newsletter and brochure advertising Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots’ services). The content you provide will also be shared between the Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots FZ-LLC, Refined Practice KlG (the web hosting agency) and their respective Agents solely for the running of the website and associated activities. Your content will not be passed on to any other third parties without your explicit consent. However, you should be aware that once published, a posted article is publicly available and can be seen and downloaded by anyone with an internet connection. As such you should avoid the use of personally identifiable information other than where absolutely necessary (for example providing contact details for an event or event programme) and never without express permission. If you upload images or other media as part of your article you may want to avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included as visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website – you can find some tips on how to do this here.

You may also want to consider making the content you upload available for other people to use – you can do this by attaching information about the sharing licence you want to use within your post. Creative Commons have some of the most commonly used licences – find out more here.

You can request that any (or all) of the content that you have provided is deleted from our website and social media accounts at any time – just contact us.

How long do we retain your data?

For users that register on our website, we also store the personal and school information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Do we provide a way to view and delete users’ data?

Most of the data we hold for you can be securely accessed via your profile page (you will have to enter your login name and password). You also have the right to access all the data we hold against your records. We will supply this within 40 days of the request being received by us. If you would like to request to see this data, or request that it is deleted, please contact us.

What’s a cookie and how do we we them?

A cookie is a text-only string of information that a website transfers to the cookie file of the browser on your computer’s hard disk or memory so that the website can remember who you are. If you post a "Mission Update" on the website you will have to log in to our CMS system that uses several first party cookies with an expiration date to track your login status and your screen display choices.

If you wish to block or delete any or all of these cookies you can do this in your web browser settings, but please be aware that this may cause some parts of this website to malfunction. How to do this varies from browser to browser, but you can find a round-up of the basics for all the major browsers in this Digital Trends article.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles and pages on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. We do not control the storing/processing of this data.
