Caring for my Cat through an Emergency and Wound Aftercare.
My cat loves roaming outdoors ,walking in premises. One day, my cat got into a fight with an infected cat and injured itself in more than one place.
Because it was late at night, around 12:00 a.m. we had to act quickly. Our first priority was to calm my cat, assess the injury, and provide immediate care before taking it for professional help.
I then carefully put my cat into pet carrier. I took my cat to the veterinary clinic that was available at that time. Unfortunately, the treatment there did not go as we had hoped, and some of the procedures appeared to make my cat's condition more difficult. My cat became extremely stressed and frustrated, and we were worried because there were no options available at that hour.
The following day, we took my cat to the veterinary centre it normally visits, the same centre where we had obtained its pet passport.
The veterinary team there examined the situation carefully and decided that my cat needed extended treatment and monitoring. My cat stayed at the centre for 1 week while receiving proper veterinary care.
It was difficult to leave my cat there, especially because it was already frightened and stressed. But we understood that sometimes responsible pet care means making difficult decisions that are in the animal's best interest. I kept visiting my cat, sometimes the doctor allowed me to see my cat, other times he didn't. But after a week, we received a call from the doctor that we can come and pick the cat. I was extremely happy and so was my cat.
At Home:
-I kept the cat indoors until the wounds completely healed
-kept the area quite and clean
-I cleaned the wounds with Saline as directed by the doctor.
-Checked regularly for swelling, redness, fluid discharge, blood.
-Made sure the Collar provided by the doctor stays on my cat and the cat doesn't lick the wounds.
-I fed my cat it's favorite treats and chicken soup.
My cat's name is Moosa and it recovered very quickly after the incident.
I would like to highlight, if a cat gets hurt, it cannot say, 'Please help me.' Instead, it may hide, stop eating, limp, or become very quiet. We need to observe and find out what's wrong. By watching carefully, giving it a safe place ,by being kind and asking an adult or a vet for help we can make a change. Every small act of kindness can make a big difference because animals have feelings too, even if they cannot use words. Roots and Shoots teaches and encourages us to be the voice of animals.
