Every week, students from the American Community School of Abu Dhabi come together with children and young adults from a local organization supporting individuals with special needs for a fun and meaningful basketball experience.
Through this initiative, ACS students partner one-on-one with students with special needs to develop fundamental basketball skills, including dribbling, passing, shooting, and movement. Each session builds confidence, encourages teamwork, and helps participants work toward the goal of playing a full basketball game together.
This initiative is about much more than basketball. By learning and playing side by side, students and participants build friendships, celebrate one another's progress, and discover the importance of patience, understanding, and mutual respect. These shared experiences help create a more inclusive community where everyone has the opportunity to participate, learn, and feel a sense of belonging.
Inclusive basketball empowers young people to take action and make a positive difference in their communities. By creating meaningful connections and celebrating everyone's abilities, ACS students are helping build a community rooted in kindness, empathy, and inclusion, one basketball session at a time.
