As part of World No Tobacco Day on May 31 2024, the Department of Sustainability and Behavioral Science of Sunrise English Private School, in collaboration with Lulu Group at Capital Mall, Abu Dhabi organized a community awareness campaign. This event aimed to educate the public on the dangers of tobacco use and promote a smoke-free lifestyle, aligning with Abu Dhabi Public Health Center’s theme, “Together Towards a Smoking-Free Abu Dhabi.”
The campaign featured Cycle 3 students from Sunrise English Private School, Mussafah, who visited Lulu Supermarket at Capital Mall with handwritten slogans advocating against tobacco use. The event was inaugurated by Mr. Bala Krishnan, General Manager of Lulu Group, who delivered a keynote address emphasizing the importance of abstaining from tobacco products, particularly among the younger generation.
Following the keynote, participants took the World No Tobacco Day pledge, led by Master Devak T, CBSE Adolescent Peer Educator of Sunrise School. Dr. Thakur Mulchandani, Principal of Sunrise English Private School, spoke on the significance of observing this day. Messages were delivered by school cabinet vice president Master Cyril Ceby in English, and Master Tamim in Arabic.
Students conducted an awareness campaign within the mall, engaging the public and collecting signatures from those pledging to avoid tobacco products. The event saw active participation from the community, who shared their views in support of a smoking-free Abu Dhabi.
The program concluded with Ms. Seeja Prajith, Sustainability School Coordinator, delivering a vote of thanks. The initiative successfully highlighted the community’s commitment to public health and the importance of a smoke-free environment.
