“Every meal is a chance to nourish not just our bodies, but our planet.”
The Food Heroes Workshop, centered on the theme “The Power Is on Your Plate,” was conducted on 28th April for Grade 5 students by the AIESEC team. The session was led by Ms. Mushyath Taskhia, in the presence of Grade 5 Supervisor Ms. Batul and School Nutritionist Ms. Anika.
This engaging workshop guided students to explore the meaningful connection between the food they eat and the health of the planet. They discovered that food is not only essential for personal well-being but also plays a significant role in shaping environmental sustainability. Through interactive discussions, students learned how food production depends on vital resources such as land, water, and energy—and why conserving these resources is crucial for the future.
A highlight of the session was the exploration of the journey food takes before reaching our plates. Students traced how food travels from farms to markets and ultimately to their lunchboxes, helping them understand the environmental impact of transportation and food distribution.
The workshop also introduced the concept of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a special focus on responsible consumption and production. Complex ideas were simplified effectively, encouraging students to reflect on their everyday food choices. They were motivated to adopt healthier and more sustainable habits, such as incorporating more plant-based foods into their diet, being open to trying new nutritious options, and actively reducing food waste.
Overall, the session was informative, interactive, and thoughtfully tailored to the students’ level of understanding. It left a lasting impression, empowering young learners to realize that even small choices can create a big impact—and that the power to protect the planet truly lies on their plate.
