From time-to-time last season, the Clarion Diggers would pause to enjoy the fruits of their labor by feasting on food they had grown in the school garden.
Whether it was drinks made from amaranth or butterfly pea tea, or jam made from tomatoes, the students always felt a great sense of achievement and pride at what they had accomplished. From building the soil, to selecting, planting and caring for the crops, the Clarion Diggers were a part of every stage of the growing process.
One particularly memorial occasion was the inaugural harvest feast for the Clarion Diggers. Picking lettuce, cucumber, beetroot, radish and tomatoes fresh from the garden, the students crafted delicious salads with the help of some lemon juice and olive oil. Sharing them around the picnic table, it marked the beginning of a lovely ritual that reminded us why we grow.
