As school staff take the reigns of our school garden this academic year, we want to take this opportunity to thank our parents who have contributed endless hours of their time in recent years to set up, expand and run composting and gardening at Clarion.
After the interruptions of Covid 19, Ms. Geovanna and Ms. Nina set out to re-establish the culture of composting and gardening created by founding parents at our school. Ms. Geovanna and Ms. Nina put together the current school garden and worked with individual classes and their teachers to create the processes that are now in place. Today we have a whole-school composting program, a worm farm, a dedicated garden space and numerous beds throughout the school.
Since re-establishing gardening and composting at Clarion, the wonderful parents of our school’s Eco committee have supported initiatives through regular working bees in the garden, sessions teaching students about planting, organic pesticides, bokashi composting and worm farming, activities with classes in areas relevant to the curriculum (for example, organic pesticides and compostable packaging), weekly after-school gardening activities (the ‘Clarion Diggers’), the management of the school composting program and maintenance of the school garden.
We are grateful for and look forward to working alongside our parent community as we continue to nurture an ever-growing focus on sustainability at Clarion.
