QAS has been awarded with the International Green Flag Certification this year after two years of hard work. We worked on the themes healthy schools and Climate change. We created awareness in our students about eating healthy, supplied fresh vegetables from our garden to the cafeteria, involved the food and nutrition department in the Qatar Foundation to spread awareness in the other schools, composted our food waste and became successful in reducing our food waste from 7 kg average to 1.8 Kg average. We worked out an Eco Code involving the whole school during the Qatar Sustainability Week to inspire the students to work towards these goals. We saw a tremendous increase in student participation in environmental sustainability events and celebrations, had students switch to public transport, created awareness about sustainable fashion, encouraged thrifting and learned how to preserve food.
The evaluation committee was very impressed with our work and commented positively on the learning outcomes of the eco committee members. The Green Flag also reminds us that we have more to do and we now have to be committed to maintain the green flag status. Go Sidra!!!
