SAFA Community School was fortunate to have the opportunity to engage with the innovative "Museum of the Future," as the school’s Eco Council came together to participate in a unique and thought-provoking experience centred around sustainability and the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in shaping the future. This initiative allowed the students to delve into research circles, offering them an exciting chance to expand their knowledge on critical global issues, while also encouraging them to think creatively about the potential solutions of tomorrow.
The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience, working across both the Junior and Senior schools to explore these pressing themes. The event provided an exceptional platform for students to gain a deeper understanding of the complex challenges facing our planet today and how these challenges will likely evolve in the future. It also prompted thoughtful discussions about how emerging technologies, especially AI, will continue to influence sustainability efforts and other key areas of society.
The activity began with the children examining various global problems, such as climate change, resource depletion, and environmental degradation. They were asked to consider how these issues might continue to impact the world over the next few decades, prompting reflections on the urgent need for innovative solutions. To better understand the relative significance of these issues, the children used green dots to indicate the importance of each scenario. They then had the opportunity to scan these green dots with AI technology, which provided an analysis of the final results, offering insights into how AI could assist in addressing these challenges.
After this, the students were divided into teams and given a fun yet thought-provoking task. They were each presented with two randomly selected words and tasked with finding a way to connect them. The challenge required the students to think creatively and logically, justifying the connections they made between the words and explaining why they thought these words could be paired together. This exercise not only enhanced their critical thinking skills but also encouraged teamwork and collaboration, as students discussed their ideas and debated the most compelling connections between their assigned words.
The overall experience provided the students with invaluable insights into the world of sustainability and AI, while also fostering an environment of innovation and creative problem-solving. Through hands-on activities and group discussions, they were able to gain a better understanding of how these global challenges will shape their future and how they, as the next generation, can play a role in driving positive change. The experience was a memorable one, leaving the students with a greater appreciation for the need to think critically about the future of our planet and the technologies that will play an essential part in addressing these challenges.
