Recycling corner at Qatar Academy Sidra

One of the main goals of the Roots & Shoots community at QAS is to make our school a circular economy. To attain this goal, we have a recycling corner at our school where we recycled large plastic drums to grow aquatic plants and some vegetables. We also used old paint cans, water cans and tires to grow plants in our schools. Small windows were made in the water cans to grow potatoes.

Through sustainability exhibitions, we talked about reusing and redesigning materials for better purposes. We displayed sustainable and non-sustainable fabric to identify the difference and urged our students to adopt a minimalistic lifestyle. We are also in the process of introducing a composting program where our food superheroes will be volunteering to turn the food waste into compost, thus giving back what we took from the earth.
