During a speech to mark the UAE’s first Environment Day in February 1998, Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan articulated his beliefs.
He said…
“On land and in the sea, our fore fathers lived and survived in this environment. They were able to do so because they recognized the need to conserve it, to take from it what they needed to live, and to preserve it for the succeeding generations.’’
Sheikh Zayed’s vision was driven by a passionate belief in social, economic and environment sustainability. He placed great emphasis on protecting our environment and our natural resources.
To mark the 12th death anniversary of Sheikh Zayed and to remember his vision and beliefs, St. Joseph’s had turned off all the classroom lights from 12 pm to 1 pm on 2nd November, 2016.
All students and the teachers showed their commitment to the planet by switching off the lights and relying on the natural sun light for one hour thereby reducing carbon footprints.
