The Bhavans Natura Team is proud to proclaim yet another milestone in our green path.The protagonist of this initiative was the smart cara.The smart cara a magnificent machine that can convert organic waste into one of the most useful produces,which is manure.This process is accomplished in an odour-free and subsidized noise polluting manner.This manure is then used for the health and well-being of our green kins at the bhavans organic garden.The large quantity of food waste left off by pupils is what became our food for thought.Hence,this project was undertaken in order to reduce the amount of waste that is generated on a daily basis.We have also been able to bring a considerable amount of change in the community’s mindset who urged that organic waste is yet another type of futile waste that adds up to the long list of other wastes, while we proved it otherwise.
We conducted a presentation at school and this idea seeked asylum in the hearts and minds of every individual present there.The placement of segregation bins was an easy procedure,but advising students and staffs about the accurate bin to dispose in their wastes wasn’t that easy.But the sticking of waste name labels served a great relief then.Taking into account the success of this programme at school level,we spread awareness amongst the parents of own-transportation students.They were advised to bring the large quantity of food waste piled up at their homes. We got about 7kgs of organic waste,out of which we acquire at least 3kg of manure.Thus,within a month our collection of manure would be a massive amount of 60-70 kgs The next step was the wider community.Our message spread all through the community-at a household,at a hotel and at a grocery store.
The intensity of determination in our message was so strong that we could even communicate it abroad.The students of Rajaji Vidyashram Chennai were more than happy to have heard this wonderful piece of information.Deva Nanda Manoj and Aayushi of grade 8 and Gargi, Gnanasree of grade 7 and Anisha of grade 10 were delighted to have shared this information.
