On the 6th of February, we were privileged to attend Dr. Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots Awards held in Park Hayatt, Saadiyat Island. GNANASREE DONAVALLI of 7B, ANUSHKA SHREYAS LALE of 7B YAKSH KALPESHBHAI THAKKAR of 7F, members of the Eco Club and Ms. Usha Kumari the co-ordinator of SSI participated in the event.
This programme spread a message on how important it is to protect and conserve the environment. Many schools that were present had set up pavilions, where they talked about the sustainable moves implemented by their schools. The most cherished part was when Dr. Jane Goodall herself came up and shared her experience on helping animals. Many awards were bestowed upon various schools. Students were awarded with certificates in recognition of their contribution in achieving a better world for people, animals and the environment.
Along with all of this, they conducted a nurdle collection competition as part of beach cleanup in which we bagged the first prize by collecting 630 nurdles. As a prize, we got AED 200 vouchers each.
It is well said by Jane Goodall that, “Every day, every one of us makes a difference and even the smallest acts of care and compassion ripple out to great effect”. The Awards were an unforgettable experience for all of us. We learnt a lot and got many more ideas to help save the earth.
