COMMUNITY FOOTPRINT OF BHAVANITES
DIABETES AWARENESS CAMPAIGN –BHAVAN’S NATURA-ECO CLUB
WELLNESS WITH UNIVERSAL HOSPITAL
As a part of the Diabetes Awareness Campaign students of Private International English School visited Universal hospital Abu Dhabi on 16-11-2016. 54 students from Grade 6-8 participated in this voluntary activity. We departed from school at 3.30 PM and arrived at the hospital at 4 PM. Community volunteers of PIES were cordially welcomed by the hospital authorities at their gate point. The evening started off with a visit to the patients rooms. Groups of 5 to 8 students visited the patients in the company of a hospital team and gifted bouquets, handmade greeting cards, paintings etc to the patients.
The amazing part of this session was the student’s interaction with the patients. Music is one of the best natural healers so some of our volunteers sang for the patients. That made them more comfortable and they relaxed. They expressed their happiness by smiling and waving to the students. That was an incredible experience. Students wished them get well soon!!!
Next was the presentation of cultural events by Bhavanites. It started with a prayer song then proceeded to the skit; CHILDREN AND DIABETES which aimed to create awareness that unhealthy life style can cause diabetes. The Power Point Presentation on causes, consequences and how to tackle diabetes was the highlight of the show. It was well appreciated by the Managing Director Mr. Shabeer, Doctors and the other officials of the Universal hospital. It was followed by Bhavans Bees musical performance. Girls of Grade 6 performed a colourful dance and Nabeel of 7 D gave a solo recital on the Tabala. Parental involvement made this visit all the more gratifying as it helped to bring home the message to all – children and adults. The programme came to a close with a silent prayer for the speedy recovery of the patients.
Our School received the Certificate of recognition titled “Health Promoting School” from the M D of the Universal Hospital, Mr. Shabeer Nellikode.
A Demonstration on Safety and First Aid was organised by the hospital authorities for the students. It was a very informative session and our students expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the School and Hospital Management for providing such a wonderful platform to reach out to so many people in the community .
