SCS Leads the Way with Fixby Phone Pouches in Senior School

Dubai, UAE – Safa Community School has become one of the first schools in Dubai to implement the innovative Fixby phone pouch system in its Senior School, taking a proactive step towards reducing digital distractions and promoting student well-being.

The initiative, introduced at the start of the current academic term, requires all senior students to lock their mobile phones in Fixby’s magnetic pouches at the beginning of each school day. The devices remain sealed and inaccessible until students leave the campus in the afternoon.

According to the school’s leadership team, the move comes in response to growing concerns about the impact of mobile phones on students’ concentration, social development, and mental health. Rather than resorting to traditional bans or disciplinary measures, the school sought a solution that was respectful and empowering.

Fixby pouches, which are already gaining popularity in UK schools and beyond, are soft, tamper-proof cases that can only be unlocked with a special base held by school staff. Once a phone is placed inside, students carry the pouch with them, but cannot access the device until the end of the day.

Parents have also welcomed the change, noting that it reflects the school’s commitment to holistic education. Prior to implementing the system, Safa Community School hosted a parent information evening to explain how the Fixby pouches work and to answer questions. The response was overwhelmingly supportive.

As digital well-being becomes a growing concern in schools around the world, Safa Community School’s leadership in adopting the Fixby system may inspire others in Dubai and the wider region to follow suit.
