Not Every Classroom Has Four Walls: Service Learning Through Local and International Service Ventures

Viper Ventures are experiential learning opportunities that extend students’ learning from the classroom to the world, providing students in Middle and High School with local and international experiences to engage in an area of their interest. For three to seven days every year, our students are able to participate in a project related to academics, athletics, arts, or service.

This year’s six service-learning Viper Ventures ranged from international volunteer trips to Kenya and Cambodia where they participated in local organizations’ wildlife conservation efforts, sustainable clothing production, and cultural preservation, to engagement in local UAE-based initiatives in marine conservation, STEAM for children in post-emergency/ displacement contexts, specialized education practices for neurodivergent students, and women social entrepreneurship. In every project, the intention was the same: to provide a solution-based approach to service, teaching our students the different ways in which initiatives locally and internationally address challenges their communities face, and leaving them empowered to contribute to creating sustainable and positive change in their own way moving forward.
