Greening Our Campus

This initiative at the American Community School of Abu Dhabi focused on greening our outdoor spaces through hands-on, sustainable practices that strengthened both the environment and our community. Students propagated existing plants, planted new seeds, and repotted greenery to create welcoming green spaces for students and parents to enjoy.

In the greenhouse, students produced organic compost by transforming food and plant waste into nutrient-rich soil. This compost was then used to improve soil quality across our outdoor areas, supporting healthier and more resilient plant growth throughout campus. In addition, herbs and lettuce were grown in aeroponics towers, giving participants hands-on experience with water-efficient, soil-free farming and exposure to innovative food systems. Once harvested, the fresh, organically grown produce was sold at our Holiday Market, with all proceeds reinvested directly into the Roots & Shoots program to support future sustainability projects, educational initiatives, and youth-led environmental action.
