Give a Ghaf Tree Project

ADHSA took on the mission to help with replanting of the indigenous Ghaf trees in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. As a first step our students visited al Barari tree nursery in Dubai and learned as much about the tree as possible. The Ghaf tree is an indigenous species, which is a drought – tolerant, evergreen tree and, possibly, the sturdiest plant of the harsh desert environment of the UAE. The ghaf tree requires very little watering unlike the non-native date palm, which makes the tree much more water saving than many other plants. After learning about the importance of this indigenous tree our students got down to work planting ghaf trees at Dubai Sustainability City.

As our next step we would like to raise awareness of this incredible tree in our community and raise our own seedlings which can be planted in Abu Dhabi.
