Share your love of wildlife in the
Al Wathba Photography competition

If you love wildlife, want to help protected habitats, and want to share your photographic skills, we have the perfect competition to share with you!

The Al Wathba Photography competition is all about celebrating and raising awareness of the beautiful Al Wathba Wetland Reserve. 

Enter your wildlife photographs taken at the reserve to be in with a chance of winning a prize from a prize pot worth up to AED 30,000!

All about Al Wathba Wetland Reserve

Founded in 1998 by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, it’s one of over 2,000 wetlands around the world recognised by the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance.

It’s 5 square kilometres encompass wetlands, salt flats of or sabhkas and sand dunes, and is teeming with life. There are over 37 species of plant, stunning dragon and damsel flies and over 250 species of birds have been spotted. Some endangered species now call Al Wathba they home and safe haven.

Of course, one of the most famous sights are the flamingoes, when as many as 4,000 can be found overwintering, and many staying year round.

The Al Wathba Photography Competition – how to enter!

Set up 3 years ago to celebrate the wildlife of Al Wathba and encourage more people to visit, the current competition runs from the 19th of November to the 30th of April.

To enter, all you need to do is upload your pictures taken at Al Wathba to Instagram, tagging or mentioning, and of course following @EAD_community, and using the hashtag #snapalwathba.

There are 2 categories: amateur photographer and professional photographer, and a maximum of two entries per person.

Winners will receive prizes from a prize pot worth up to AED 30,000!

And of course to visit Al Wathba to take your photos, you’ll need to go visit. It’s open on Thursdays and Saturdays from 8am to 2pm.
