Urban Resource: Urban Safari

This activity will help students understand some of the obvious and lesser known creatures which live around their environment, and gain insight as to how these animals provide food for each other.

In this activity you and your students will:

  • Run an ‘Urban Safari’ to learn about the fauna of your local area, and how the ecosystem fits together
  • Understand what food chains and food webs are, and the different members of each
  • Create a model representing some of the relationships in your local ecosystem
  • Optional: explore other aspects of the ecosystem, including pyramids of biomass
