Pearly shells @ St. Joseph’s School, Abu Dhabi

Children’s Day was celebrated at St. Joseph’s School on November 14th, 2016 with a theme ” Students are like pearly shells”. With the support of our sisters, a short skit was enacted by our teachers and a beautiful dance was performed by our I and VI grade students.

The theme was focused on the features of sea shells. Students were compared to the sea shells which are different to each other in shape, color, size, pattern and texture. We are also delicate, fragile and little just like sea shells. We were advised to understand and accept that we all are different from each other and we should nurture ourselves in the journey of life.

Along with this, awareness was raised by our school eco-club “Verte” regarding the importance of seashells as they are an important part of coastal ecosystem. They provide materials for birds’ nests, a home or attachment surface for algae, sea grass, sponges and a host of other microorganisms. The removal of shells from beaches could damage ecosystems and endanger organisms that rely on shells for their survival.

Everyone enjoyed the act, learnt new things about the sea shells and appreciated the efforts of all the participants.
