ADHSA Student Moosa Permaculture Practices

Permaculture, a term coined from “permanent agriculture” and later “permanent culture,” is more than just a farming method. It’s a design system for creating sustainable and self-sufficient environments. Here’s a reflection on what I’ve learned from permaculture. Permaculture promotes the mimicking of natural environments and using nature to improve your farm such as using the sun’s angle so your plants receive the right amount of light. Permaculture also promotes using renewable resources and recycling, not only for the benefit of the environment but also to improve your farm. I used this principle in planting then chopping down small leguminous plants, and then burying them to fertilize the ground for larger trees to grow. One of the most innovative methods of using nature to improve your farm that I learned was using the larger plants as shade as well as windbreakers to protect the smaller vegetable plants which would otherwise not grow in the desert.  In conclusion, learning and implementing permaculture has helped me learn more about our natural environment and sustainable living.person watering plant
