Kashika Sonone, Student at DPS Sharjah
The Carbon Countdown Project at Delhi Private School (DPS) Sharjah was designed to raise awareness about the urgency of climate change and the critical need to limit global warming to 1.5°C. This initiative aimed to educate both students and parents on the pressing reality of climate change, encouraging them to take meaningful action.
At the heart of this campaign was the Carbon Clock, displayed prominently in the school’s reception area, which captured the attention of everyone who passed by. This visual representation served as a powerful reminder of the countdown to critical climate thresholds, sparking important conversations about the future of our planet.
The response from students has been overwhelmingly positive. Many have expressed a heightened sense of responsibility towards the environment and have actively engaged with the campaign by taking the climate pledge to reduce their carbon footprints. Several students have even initiated their own sustainability practices within the school, such as organizing waste-reduction efforts and spreading awareness about energy conservation.
Parents have also shown support, with many committing to adopt eco-friendly habits at home. This student-driven initiative has had a ripple effect, fostering a deeper sense of environmental stewardship within the entire school community.
The Carbon Countdown Project has not only raised awareness but has ignited a passion for sustainability among students, empowering them to take on leadership roles in spreading the message of climate action. It has created a strong foundation for continued engagement with environmental issues and has sparked a collective movement towards a greener future.
