Making worm tea

When we first set up our worm farm, we thought that worm tea was the liquid collected through the spigot at the base of the farm. As we learnt more, we realized that the worm tea is the amazingly nutrient-rich fertilizer made from worm castings collected in the lower stories of the farm.

Once our worm family had moved to the upper stories of the farm in search of fresh food, the Clarion Diggers set out to make worm tea to use as fertilizer in our garden.

There are different ways to make worm tea, but for our first time we did the following:

We learnt a lot. Separating the worms from their castings was challenging at times, especially as the castings were quite damp. It was also difficult for us to identify the cocoons and we worried that we were going to miss those and harm the babies.

However, we persevered and produced worm tea that made its way to the garden beds to nourish our plants.
